Welcome to Swanage Army Link.

The Swanage Army Link is a dynamic association that has evolved over nearly 30 years between the Swanage Railway, the British Army, the People of Swanage and the Royal British Legion.

Regular ongoing visits by the Royal Corps of Signals soldiers are core to this Link, as is Team Herston, formed in 2007, bringing together local residents and ex soldiers who work regularly on our core project – the upkeep of Herston Halt.

More recently we have been proud to welcome Heroes Haven into the fold.

Heroes Haven

The project to provide a holiday facility, adapted and designed to provide respite for injured soldiers and their carers started in 2009.

The inspiration for Heroes Haven Swanage was Rifleman Jack Otter who, at the age of 21, was seriously injured by an Improvised Explosive Device in Afghanistan. Since then thousands of good people have raised money to provide a fully equipped log cabin located in spacious surroundings fit for heroes, located about 500 metres up the hill from Herston Halt.

Whilst the project team of Linda, Lynne, Mandy and Steve set out to raise £80,000, with the generous support of the local community, kind people further afield and supportive local businesses & groups the charity has now raised over £260,000. To make a donation please see the Home page.

We are proud that at lease five individuals, who have been a part of Heroes Haven Swanage, carried the 2012 Olympic Flame:

Lynne Connor (in Preston, Weymouth) – Heroes Haven Swanage Fundraiser
Jack Otter (in Enfield) – The inspiration
Austin Reynolds (in Greenwich) – Austin Reynolds Signs
Frank Roberts (in Swanage) – Swanage Army Link
Alan Rowe (in Paignton) – The Baton Trust
