Welcome to Swanage Army Link.

The Swanage Army Link is a dynamic association that has evolved over nearly 30 years between the Swanage Railway, the British Army, the People of Swanage and the Royal British Legion.

Regular ongoing visits by the Royal Corps of Signals soldiers are core to this Link, as is Team Herston, formed in 2007, bringing together local residents and ex soldiers who work regularly on our core project – the upkeep of Herston Halt.

More recently we have been proud to welcome Heroes Haven into the fold.

Town of Swanage

The people of Swanage have always supported visiting soldiers, especially those in the 1980s taking a break from the troubles in Northern Ireland, and enjoying a relaxing pint, a port or a game of pool in one of the local public houses!

In the early 1990s football and hockey matches were regularly played against local youth teams. Support was often given by soldiers to local groups such as the Corfe Castle Christmas Lights Committee, and various other fund raising charities such as Swanage Cottage Hospital.

In 2005 this support was more formally recognised when the Swanage Town Council offered 11th (Royal School of Signals) Signal Regiment the Liberty of Swanage, and the Regiment paraded through the town on Saturday 9th July 2005. See History section for more details and pictures of the Liberty of Swanage

Today, the people of Swanage often welcome soldiers at celebration, remembrance, anniversary and summer Carnival events.
