Welcome to Swanage Army Link.

The Swanage Army Link is a dynamic association that has evolved over nearly 30 years between the Swanage Railway, the British Army, the People of Swanage and the Royal British Legion.

Regular ongoing visits by the Royal Corps of Signals soldiers are core to this Link, as is Team Herston, formed in 2007, bringing together local residents and ex soldiers who work regularly on our core project – the upkeep of Herston Halt.

More recently we have been proud to welcome Heroes Haven into the fold.

Other information

Hello, I'm Alan.Alan Watts in Berlin

Growing up in the 1960’s, it was inevitable that I would become interested in music, radio (for those that were not there, new stations appeared from ships anchored in the North Sea), and during the demise of steam – railways. I find myself more interested in railway infrastructure than rolling stock to be honest. How fortunate I was then, in 2005, to be introduced to Frank Roberts by a mutual friend, at around the same time I landed a spot as a DJ on Radio Caroline. So now I can fulfill both passions in completely different ways. I make most monthly Team Herston work parties, and being of a certain age (the clue is in the first line above), I find myself more involved in the supervisory or safety role than lifting telegraph poles or sleepers. In the summer months, being a fair weather biker, I can also incorporate my other passion – motorcycling – into the trips to Swanage from my home near Portsmouth. And there lies my other interest, football. Not much time to sit here writing then.
